Working from home has become increasingly popular in recent years, and with that comes the need for comfortable and stylish work-from-home outfits. Although I don’t work from home, I still want something comfortable to wear whilst looking reasonably stylish. These are ideas that can take us through into hybrid working too.

When choosing work-from-home outfits, it’s important to consider the following factors:
- Comfort: You want to be able to move around freely and comfortably in your work-from-home clothes, without feeling restricted.
- Professionalism: Even though you’re not going into the office, you still want to look professional and put-together for video calls and meetings with clients and colleagues.
- Versatility: Your work-from-home outfits should be versatile enough to take you from video calls to errands to running around the house.
Here are some of the best work-from-home outfits ideas for 2024:
1. Leggings and a jumper (sweater): Leggings and a jumper are a classic work-from-home outfit that is both comfortable and stylish. Choose a pair of black or navy leggings and a jumper in a neutral colour, such as beige, grey, or white. You can also layer a cardigan or blazer over your jumper for a more polished look. For me the jumper has to be a tunic length otherwise my big tummy sticks out!
2. Joggers (Sweatpants) and a blouse: Joggers are another comfortable option for working from home, but you can dress them up by pairing them with a blouse. Choose a pair of joggers in a neutral colour and a blouse in a fun print or colour. You can also add a blazer or cardigan to your outfit for a more professional look. I have ‘smart’ joggers which are a Ponte fabric and have a little turnup on the hemline, they also have a pleat at the front which elevates them, whilst still being casual (watch out for bobbling though!).
3. A jumpsuit: A jumpsuit is a great one-piece outfit for working from home. Choose a jumpsuit in a comfortable fabric, such as jersey or cotton. You can also find jumpsuits in a variety of styles, from casual to dressy. There is apparently a jumpsuit for everyone – I’m still looking! When I find it I’ll let you know.
4. A dress: A dress is another easy and versatile option for working from home. Choose a dress in a comfortable fabric and a length that you feel comfortable in. You can also find dresses in a variety of styles, from casual to dressy. I have a lovely dress with a pleated skirt that I can wear with a jumper over the top for a relaxed look and a blazer over for a more tailored professional look, it even takes me into the evening for a date night out. Items that can adapted for multiple looks are a godsend!
5. A skirt and top: A skirt and top is a classic work-from-home outfit that is both comfortable and stylish. Choose a skirt in a neutral colour and a top in a fun print or colour. You can also add a blazer or cardigan to your outfit for a more professional look.
No matter what your personal style is, there are many different work-from-home outfits that you can choose from. The most important thing is to find outfits that make you feel comfortable and confident.
Here are some additional tips for dressing for work from home:
- Accessorize: Accessories can help you to elevate your work-from-home outfits. Add a statement necklace, scarf, or earrings to your outfit to make it look more put-together. I’m known by my kids friends as the scarf lady as I wear scarves all year round. I wear lightweight scarves in Spring and sometimes in Summer (it’s not all sunshine in the UK) and I move towards heavier weight ones in the Autumn/Winter.
- Pay attention to the details: Even though you’re not going into the office, it’s important to pay attention to the details of your outfit. Make sure your clothes are clean and wrinkle-free, and that your hair and makeup are done neatly.
- Change out of your pyjamas: It’s tempting to stay in your pyjamas all day when you’re working from home, but it’s important to get dressed in the morning. Getting dressed will help you to feel more professional and productive.

Experiment with different outfits and find what works best for you. With a little planning, you can easily create stylish and comfortable work-from-home outfits that will make you feel confident and ready to take on the day.
Take care, stay safe.
