I missed the boat on posting how to keep kids entertained over the summer months as we were just so busy (but more on that another time perhaps). And so, with the change in weather and temperature, and it being the start of October I thought it might be pertinent to write about keeping kids entertained in the autumn/winter months here in the UK. But, I suppose this could be for anywhere really.
I know from experience that the winter months can be a little challenging to some of us. I feel more like snoozing and flopping on the sofa than actually getting off my backside and doing something, but given the fact that the fresh air is good for us and a little bit of being outside is beneficial then I guess we ought to do more of it. It’s so easy to want to hunkerdown, cosy up in front of the fire and spend the autumn/winter months in hibernation, but I will aim to do as many of my suggestions as I can and let you know how we all got on.
With that in mind, here are some ideas on how to keep kids entertained in the winter months in the UK:

By all means these are not rocket science and nothing really new or life affirming, but it’s just a few things I’m thinking of doing. Why not try some, you’ll have fun – honest.
Outdoor activities:
- Build a snowman or go sledding (if you have snow!)
- Go for a walk in the park or woods and look for winter wildlife
- Visit a local farm or petting zoo
- Have a snowball fight
- Build a snow fort
- Go ice skating
- Visit a winter wonderland attraction
- go to your local Mop Fair if your town has one

Indoor activities:
- Visit a museum or art gallery
- Go to the library or bookstore
- Play board games or video games
- Have a movie marathon
- Bake cookies or other treats
- Do arts and crafts projects
- Play dress-up and have a fashion show
- Put on a talent show for the family
- Build a fort out of blankets and pillows
- Have a dance party

Other ideas:
- Take a cooking class together
- Volunteer at a local soup kitchen or homeless shelter
- Go to a sporting event or concert
- Visit a cultural festival or holiday market
- Take a day trip to a nearby town or city
- Have a sleepover with friends
Tips:
- Be flexible and willing to change your plans if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
- Make sure to have plenty of snacks and drinks on hand.
- Take breaks often, especially if you’re doing outdoor activities.
- Dress warmly and in layers.
- Be prepared to get messy!

- Plan ahead. Look for upcoming events and activities in your area. This will help you avoid boredom and make the most of your time.
- Get creative. There are endless possibilities for indoor and outdoor winter activities. Use your imagination to come up with fun and engaging ways to keep your kids entertained.
- Most importantly, have fun! Winter can be a magical time of year. Make the most of it by spending time with your loved ones and enjoying all the season has to offer.
