What are the Autumn/Winter fashion trends for you this season?

It’s that time of year where for some of us it’s season changeover in our wardrobes. I do this on a mostly half-hearted basis as I do tend to layer up and have a lot of three season items in my wardrobe, so it’s only really a few items that get culled or put into storage. I don’t have a huge wardrobe or a massive amount of storage so what I have has to work for me. I tend to buy quality over quantity, although I do confess I don’t always stick to this rule and have bought plenty of ‘orphans’ of late, so I have had another cull and will be ebaying most of it.

This is also the time of year where once the season changeover has been done we can establish where we may have gaps in our wardrobe or look to changing our colours for the new season, I tend to wear much more richer, opulent colours over the Autumn and Winter seasons whereas in summer I go more for the lighter colours. And with this in mind it may be a good idea to look at some trends for the upcoming season.

Now, I know not everyone wants to follow a trend or buy new but hear me out, you may have something lurking in the back of the wardrobe from a previous time, or you may choose to shop second hand and be more eco friendly, whatever you do or find you may just hit upon one of the key trends afterall. I’ve recently dug out an old Burberry’s (vintage 1990’s) car coat which I will be bringing back into use as the trenchcoat is very much back in and my car coat is a trench without the double breasted buttoning and minus a belt, so I’ll style it my way.

The idea isn’t to follow the crowd and be the same as everyone else, make that oversized blazer your own. It’s how you wear it as much as what you’re wearing that matters here. I like to add a fancy brooch, or two, or show a patterned long sleeve top under ruched up sleeves when I wear my oversized blazer. I team blazers with jeans on a day off or a dress or smart trousers on a work day. Adding embellishments to your blazer makes it unique to you and makes it a part of your style. I’ll do a post on finding your style one day maybe.

We are still in hybrid mode since Covid lockdowns and working from home in 2020 and this seems to be the continuing trend so it seems logical that fashion follows suit, and our wardrobes have become multifunctional with it. We need clothes that work for our lifestyles and whilst we are perhaps moving away from the loungewear we were once favouring (although it’s still high on the list of favourites), there is a shift towards smarter, but still remaining comfortable, clothing. Those Birkenstocks we covet throughout the summer months? Well, they’re still in but with a closed toe and heel. Ortho soles are very much de rigueur at the moment, who knew getting older would be fashionable!?

The Autumn/Winter 2023 fashion trends are all about comfort, style, and sustainability.

Here are some of the key trends to watch out for:

  • Oversized silhouettes: Oversized blazers, sweaters, and coats are all the rage this season. They’re perfect for layering and staying warm, and they can be dressed up or down.
  • Knitwear: Knitwear is another big trend this season, and for good reason. It’s warm, comfortable, and versatile. Look for knit dresses, sweaters, and cardigans in soft, muted colors.
  • Tailoring: Tailored pieces, such as suits and blazers, are also on trend this season. They’re perfect for work or a night out.
  • Bold colors: While muted tones are still popular, this season is also all about bold colors, such as red, green, and blue. Make a statement with a brightly colored coat or dress.
  • Sustainable fashion: Sustainable fashion is more important than ever, and many brands are now offering eco-friendly clothing options. Look for pieces made from recycled materials or organic fabrics.

Here are some additional trends that are worth noting:

  • Winter florals: Winter florals are a fun and unexpected way to brighten up your wardrobe. Look for pieces with floral prints in muted colors or on dark backgrounds.
  • Soft touch fabrics: Soft touch fabrics, such as velvet and velour, are another big trend this season. They’re perfect for adding a touch of luxury to your outfits.
  • Statement jewelry: Statement jewelry is a great way to add personality to your outfits. This season, look for bold pieces with oversized gemstones or geometric shapes.

No matter what your personal style is, there’s sure to be an Autumn/Winter 2023 trend that’s perfect for you. So have fun and experiment with different looks until you find something you love.

Take care, stay safe.
